Catherine Getchell - Solo Cornet Catherine Getchell began playing the trumpet at age nine. Since then, she has played in numerous bands, orchestras, and other groups. These include serving as principal trumpet of the East Winds Symphonic Band, Edgewood Symphony Orchestra, and Yale Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing Solo Cornet with Pennview Brass Band, she is currently a member of the Main Line Symphony Orchestra and the Merion Concert Band. She has also performed as a soloist with numerous ensembles, including the Washington Chamber Symphony, Yale Symphony Orchestra, Edgewood Symphony Orchestra, East Winds Symphonic Band, and, most recently in May of 2009, the North Suburban Symphonic Band. Catherine works full-time as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry, helping people with disabilities find and keep jobs. She has a BA in linguistics from Yale University and an MS in rehabilitation science from the University of Pittsburgh. She lives in Elkins Park with her husband Sam, Seeing Eye dog, and two cats. |
